Axis award system for BFE DoD
Axis
....Division Name....
These first 3 categories require input from the Officers:
Das Eiserne Kreuz 1939 - Iron Cross (IC) – Each Officer
gets ONE (1) recommendation each battle. That gives 7 IC's each Battle per
Division (generous at just under 10%). This individual may NOT be currently
recommended for the GC or WM.
The true story
The Iron Cross is indisputably the most historically rich and notorious German
award. Its long tradition dates back to 1813, when King Friedrich Wilhelm III of
Prussia first instituted the order during the War of Liberation against
Napoleon. The cross went on to be suspended from the uniforms of admirable
German soldiers in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War, and again in 1914 for World War
I. Through the sacrifice of the men who earned it, its humble but striking
design became synonymous with old world German courage and triumph.
In the new world order where Germany was a pariah after World War I, few
reminders of past conflicts could be a source of pride. Still, the old silver
and black was reminiscent of gallant Prussian warriors, the great victories of
the Bismarck era, and the brave soldiers of World War I; the cross has had an
unquestionable aura since it was created. With the opening salvos of World War
II, Hitler superimposed his chilling political imagery to this aura, evoking the
glory of bygone days. With that act, the 1939 Iron Cross, now forever interlaced
with the Third Reich, instantly became one of the most visually powerful and
recognizable military awards of all time.
NOTE Senior NCOs are able to post a recommendation to their COs if no
COs were in the server at the giving time of the deed; the CO isn’t eligible to
use that Recommendation.
What To Do:

present BFE veterans on the axis side.
The true story
The 1939 Spange was awarded to those who received either of the first two
classes of the Iron Cross in World War I, and would have earned the same class
in the Second World War.
Wearing
1939 spange of the Iron Cross 2nd Class
The clasp was worn through the ribbon of the 1914 Iron Cross (which was looped
on the second buttonhole), on the ribbon as party of a mounted bar of full
medals, in a ribbon bar as a device attached to the 1914 slot.
1939 spange of the Iron Cross 1st class
The clasp was worn directly on the uniform above the Iron Cross 1st Class, and
on the reverse a pin and catch system was responsible for holding the Spange to
the uniform.
Kriegsorden des Deutschen Kreuzes - German Cross (GC) –
Each Officer gets TWO (2) recommendation for this award each battle. This
individual may NOT be currently recommended for the IC or WM.
The true story
The award was created in two classes, Gold and Silver, independent of one
another. The type in Gold had as its objective the recognition of repeated acts
of bravery or exceptional command not justifying the award of the Knight’s Cross
of the Iron Cross, but superior to requirements for award of the Iron Cross 1st
Class. The type in Silver was to reward significant performance in military
conduct of the war. Neither were in any way part of the classes of the Iron
Cross. Because of this, recipients might first receive the Knight’s Cross of the
Iron Cross and afterwards the German Cross—or vice versa.

to denoting civil service in war e.g.. state officials, civilians, auxiliary
military personal, from combat service - in October 18, 1938, the new award (Das
